When Seth Meek exits the parking lot at Fort Meade, he doesn't realize that he'll never return to his dream job - creating revolutionary computer encryption for the National Security Agency. His is a life of comfort and delight - a loving wife, daughter, and another on the way. He has money, security, and promise. In the space of the next twenty-four hours, however, he is stripped of everything that he holds dear. Seth watches as his family is purposefully and hatefully murdered, becomes a Federal fugitive, and faces off against the waking nightmare of taking his own life. In shame, self-loathing, and hatred he falls back upon what he knows - computers. Now driven by his rage, and with nothing to lose, Seth embarks on a audacious quest not only to find and capture his family's killers, but also to bring them to justice. Seth, however, is not a killer. He is not a vigilante. He's just Seth... a glorified computer contractor for the NSA. Using his unique skill set, he reveals his plan to put the killers on trial... via the Internet. Social media is the perfect medium for the geometric progression that he has planned. The entire world will be the Grand Jury, forced to confront their own bloodlust, sense of justice, and morality as they decide upon a verdict. Experience more at http//juryofpeers.us

It's truly hard to believe this is a novice novel: the story is gripping, the characters are real, and the exposition is effortless. A good first-timer maybe gets one or two, but Mr. Brodsky nails a three-run homer his first time at bat. I've been trying to pigeon-hole the genre since I finished reading (devouring?) it this weekend, thinking it would be easy as I read along. Gritty Murder Mystery. There. Done. And, Funny Buddy Cop. Now done. Okay, add a HUGE pile of Techno Thriller. Alright. Please. Morality Play? Seriously?

Yeah, seriously.

Jury of Peers is all at once an incredibly good read AND a Gritty-Murder-Mystery-Funny-Buddy-Cop-Techno-Thriller-Morality-Play. Think about that for a second. It should be a hot mess, but it isn't. Far from it. Characters and scenes are woven in clear, descriptive, and -- more often than not -- starkly dark detail. If you're not intended to like a character, it's obvious from the beginning. But by the time you're done being introduced, you hate them for reasons that only become important later on. That's what makes a story fun to read, and this is one of those stories. Same is true for the good characters, of course, but he does the bad ones oh-so well.

My only gripe was the number of typos. While not exactly pervasive, they occurred with an irkable frequency precisely because everything else in the book was so well done. Perhaps it's a byproduct of the eBook "must-work-on-anything" medium, I know not of such things and will not pretend I do. But I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, and will gladly buy and read anything Mr. Brodsky decides to write after this.

Well done, sir! <S>

Jury of Peers Troy L Brodsky 9780615897493 Books Reviews

Pretty much from the moment I began reading this novel, I couldn't stop. Over the weekend, I would be up with the sun until I literally couldn't keep my eyes open anymore. And even now that I'm done, I'm still affected.

This book definitely makes you question some of your own beliefs, wondering what you would do if you were any one of the characters in the story. Its emotional, its visceral, its triumphant, thought-provoking and just a really great read.
Absolutely one of the best books I've read in a while.

If i could give it 5 more stars, I would.
An outstanding first novel that takes you in a headlong rush from start to finish! My only issues was that I wanted more - the characters are in general so well fleshed out that I found myself wanting to spend more time with them - well, some of them at least. Other characters are just dripping with nastiness...I could even sense the smell on some of them.

Mr. Broadsky poses an interesting question - who are we to judge? And the protagonist in Jury of Peers has an answer that just flat floored me. Faced with unimaginable loss and sorrow, he crafts a response that is simultaneously fascinating and terrifying. Not 10 pages into it and I noticed my knuckles were turning white. The tension builds quickly, there are some memorable twists and turns, and a real sense (a la Breaking Bad) that maybe not everyone's coming out of this one alive.

Troy has a great ear for the dialogue of the street, you can tell his students were not the only ones paying attention back when he was teaching. Some great cops in there, too. I'm already casting the movie in my head.

Way to go, first timer! I hope you make enough tonnage of cash to set you up for another one soon!
As someone who prosecutes murderers and rapists for a living, I typically refuse to read crime novels. They are usually full of predictable plot twists and overly dramatic police characters, but a friend told me about this book, and I absolutely loved it and would recommend it to anyone!

Yes, it's a little dark, but in a very realistic way. His characters, for the most part, are spot-on in their mannerisms and personalities, and watching how they develop throughout the story was intriguing to watch.

The best thing about this book is how the author illustrates the struggle between justice and vengeance, and how that struggle effects each character in a different way. That in itself is not a new concept, yet this author finds a very unique way of mixing that concept with a high tech twist that made it impossible to put the book down.
I downloaded this book several months ago but have very little time to read for pleasure during the school year, so I waited until I was on Christmas break to start reading it. I'm used to free books being mildly entertaining but unforgettable. Definitely not the case this time!! The story line grabbed my attention immediately and held it until the very last page - I had a tough time putting it down! Hard to believe it was the author's first novel! I wasn't bothered by the language (then again, I teach 8th graders), nor was I put off by the occasional typos as several reviewers stated. My husband just started reading it - I'm anxious to hear his take. It's been hard for me not to give anything away (he's a slow reader)!! I would definitely read other books written by Mr. Brodsky!
Jury of Peers is perhaps the most thought provoking story I have ever read. Simply the best!

A man's pregnant wife and eight year old daughter are raped and murdered by teen gang members as part of an initiation. The man arrives as the assailants are about to leave. They pistol whip him but he's seen enough to identify the two.

The man is a computer wizard employed by the government and he uses his skills to place the thugs on trial before the entire world.

What transpires between the murder and the end will stay with the reader long after the story is finished.

The novel is as we'll written as any I've read in my life. The tension never lets up from start to finish. This is one you'll want to read several times, just to savor the morality and justice that is brought to bear on the subject of violent crime committed by teens.

This is a book to read, reread and pass around to friends. Don't hesitate to buy this book. It will be close to life changing.
